Recent Security Alarm License Training

For those that don’t know, the security alarm licenses are managed by Texas DPS.  The website is TOPS.

In order to renew your license, you have to complete continuing education.

The organization I am currently with uses Jade Learning to comply with the TxDPS requirements.

I took the following courses:

  • Networking & Cabling for Security Installations

  • Access Control

  • 8-Hour Package for Texas Alarm Technicians:

    • Remote-Control, Signaling, and Power-Limited Conductors

    • False Alarm Prevention for the Alarm Technician

    • 2023 NEC Changes: Low Voltage

    • Texas Private Security Ethics

The total time for the courses was 16 hours, and no, you cannot finish before the required time.  I was able to complete all the courses with about 30 minutes left before the required time.  I was forced to go back and review the material until the required time was met.

Overall, some was very informative, while some was a bit mundane.  The NEC course took some effort to get through, but with good notes, the quizzes were easy.

Regarding the quizzes, you are allowed 1000 tries.  It should only take you 2 or 3 attempts.  I was able to clear most quizzes in a single pass but had to retake a few.

Full disclosure, I put off finishing the courses and had to complete most of them in 2 days.  I finished on the day my license was set to expire but got the credits and the renewal.

Y’all stay extraordinary!
